The Waterman Red Top Drainage Gate has been designed as a competitive
flap gate for use with concrete pipe, headwalls, and corrugated metal
pipe with up to a ten foot seating head. The frame and cover are of heavy
duty arched cast iron design. Steel angle links have been used to absorb
unbalanced side shock, and are balance-pivoted on bronze bushings. A 5
degree seat on sizes 6" through 24" and 2 1/2 degree seat on
sizes 30" through 72" eliminates the need for special pipe cuts
or sections, and prevents the gate from standing open due to slight pipe
sagging or settling. An innovation in the cover provides each gate with
a safety to prevent jamming, without additional cost. Gates are available
with special stainless steel or brass links and bolts as well as bronze
seating faces. This gate has been extensively used on federal, state and
municipal projects for drainage, waste line, sewage treatment, flood control
and irrigation systems. A free outflow with a practical sealing against
backflow combine with maintenance-free operation to assure years of satisfactory
use. This gate is not recommended for pump discharge or other applications
where violent slamming may occur. Heavy-duty links and bushings are available
when severe operating conditions are anticipated. for position only
General
The drainage gate shall be designed to allow free outflow and prevent
backflow for maximum seating heads of 10 feet. Gates shall be Waterman
Model F-10 or equal.
Construction
The frame shall be cast iron of flatback or spigotback design (or other
specified design configuration as required) with seating surface inclined
from vertical at a minimum of 2 1/2 degrees to assure positive closure.
The cast iron cover, with domed construction to withstand maximum seating
head, shall have machined seats, and be attached to the frame in such
a manner as to allow proper seating and full opening of cover. Built in
stops shall be provided to prevent the cover from rotating sufficiently
to become wedged in the open position. The linkage system shall be of
the double pivoted type, attached to fixed, bronze bushed, pivot points
on cover and frame. Hinge links shall be structural steel, which along
with assembly hardware shall be galvanized.
Finish
Cast iron frame and cover shall be coated with manufacturer's standard
shopcoat paint. Galvanized steel does not require further finish.
Material
Frame and Cover - Cast Iron per ASTM A-126, Class B. Hinge Link - Structural
Steel per ASTM A-36, Galvanized per ASTM A-123. Assembly Hardware - Steel
